As I am preparing for Easter, I have, of course, been reading the Easter accounts once again. In John 20: 1-18 we see the encounter of Mary Magdalene with the risen Jesus. After meeting him alive she goes straight to the disciples and tells them, "I have seen the Lord!". These five words are the core of all Christian witness. Our testimony that we have met Jesus, that we have been with him, alive and no longer dead, is what marks us as Christian people. It is, in the eyes of the world, a ridiculous claim. It is made even more ludicrous when we add to it our profession that this risen Jesus is our Lord: in charge of our lives. Nothing else will reach the world. Only the message that this Jesus has forgiven our sins and given us the power to live lives of love can make a difference in the jaded hopelessness and self-centered emptiness of this world. Will you stand up this Easter for your precious savior? Will you identify yourself as a believer? Will you leave your own strength behind and begin to live in the power of the Holy Spirit that is fully available to you? I have to tell you, I have seen the Lord! There is no one more beautiful. There is no one or no thing worth following but Jesus. All the rest are empty, self-serving lies. In Jesus alone is abundant life. If we will die to our own dreams and come alive to his we will discover his resurrection power is overwhelmingly real and completely wonderful! Alleluia!
Christ is risen!! Jesus is risen indeed!!! Are you risen
with him? In Christ's service, Pastor Barry |
